La Petite Gare is a relaxed bistro cafe inspired by the owners travels around France, serving classic French cookery with a modern twist. The cafe sits opposite the local train station, hence the name La Petite Gare. The brief was to create an identity that would conjure nostalgic feelings of bygone days sat outside a cafe in Paris.
I researched the heritage of French shop fronts and restaurants, and was hugely inspired by the multiple font combinations used along with the hand painted crests and symbols. I also drew on the fabric of the station nameplates in the Paris Metro. A bespoke typeface was developed based on the beautiful tiled lettering, while the colour palette used was inspired by the blue and white earthenware tiles.

Process
Tiled signage like this one on the Paris Metro inspired the stencil typeface I created along with the blue and white colour palette.
In searching for the right typographic voice, I utilised the interesting font combinations and composition of vintage French signage and typography.
